The Story of Meep - Danvers, MA:
Meep was innocently born in the spring of 2009 by a Danvers, MA high school student. Some have credited the "Beaker" character on Sesame Street for saying meep and the cartoon character "Road Runner" for coining the term "meepmeep". Neither is the case. Meep was derived from a video game, with NO real meaning attached to it, much like hmmm, uggh and whew. As meep matured, it morphed into many things. It was used primarily as a greeting passed between two individuals. Soon, meep was commonplace in the halls of Danvers High School. But the fall of 2009 was to be the fall of meep. For meep was also being substituted for "bad" words in phrases such as "are you meepin kidding me?" Then, some misguided students began using meep as an annoyance tool in the classroom and as a distraction in the halls of the school. Soon thereafter, a teacher complained to the Principal about the misuse of meep. The Principal decided to take a giant step and BANNED the use of meep, spoken, written or spelled out on clothing. It may possibly be the first time in America that a principal has banned a word with no meaning! On what grounds we ask? Meep has effectively been "jailed".
We live in a Democratic society - The United States of America - innocent until proven guilty. You can either lay down your constitutional rights or you can join in the fight to free meep. Other than in the "Urban Dictionary", meep currently means nothing! Or does it? Meep is taking on a life of its own. There is a groundswell of support for meep. Americans are not happy when their freedoms are taken away. First we get mad, then we rebel! History has proven that!
